Overview

Come to know one of the most unspoiled part of the Pyrenees. You will be able to enjoy and feel the silence of this snowed valleys and mountains in winter, surrounded by magic forests and iced crystalline mountain lakes. You wil preferably go acroos this unforgettable spots with snowshoes.

 

These holydays are desinged for half day hikes with snowshoes, from 3 to 5 hours, and a slope around 400-800 metres, so it is neccesary a medium phisycal condition. This will allow us to combine hikes with visits to the heritage. In any case we will alternate longer hikes with shorter ones. The routes describe follwing could change depending on weather conditions, but we will always look for the best alternatives.

 

The main guide that will accompany you in all the hikes and walks is the local guide, David Ruiz de Gopegui, with a long experinece working with different groups in this part of the Pyrenees, he combine the environmental and ludic facets to show this mountains and valleys. In some holidays we will have the possibility that a geologist specialist, Daniel García Jimenez, will show us the past of these mountains and valleys.

 

Tha maximum number of persons admited is 8 and the mínimum 6. There wil not be any single supplement. We accept solo travelers, couples and groups as well.

Day by day experience

Day 1

Wellcome in Casa Estarrún, Aísa valley. We will present you with a local wine and cheese. After the dinner, we will inform the new guests about the history and nature of this area.

 

Day 2

This first day the snowshoes will be delivered to get used to them. After we will visit the Aísa valley to go through a glacier cirque surround by impresive peaks (4 hours and 450 metres slope). We will enjoy of an alpine surrounding and the presence of chamois and some bearded vultures. In the afternoon we will know Jaca and its main monuments. Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 3

For this hike we will move to a valley with an impresive canion (garganta del infierno), there we have two possibilities: or going by car to a refuge at 1400 metres altitude to make a walk (2 ½ hours) with snowshoes across a snowed plain, or walking around the canion (3 hours) above the rests of a roman road. After a visigothic monastery and the Hecho mountain village is awaiting us. Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 4

We will get closer the French Pyrenees National Park, and make a walk (4 hours) to one of the biggest mountain lakes of the Pyrenees. Part of the path will coincide with the Camille route, one of the last native female bears of the Pyrenees. In the afternoon we will visit with a guide the Canfranc modernist railway station. Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 5

This day we could choose between a hike with snowshoes (3 hours) in the most western valley of this natural Park, which will get us closer to a classical peak. Or we could climb (2 ½ hours) an easy mountain peak with unforgettable Pyrenees views in the San Juan de la Peña Natural Park. After, we will go to discover a romanesque monastery and the romanesque churches in a village with traditional architecture (Santa Cruz de la Serós). Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 6

We will move to one of the most beautiful valleys of the french western Pyrenees, smooth meadows contrast with its steep peaks that form and impresive cirque. We will visit french Pyrenean architecture villages. Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 7

The last day we make a classic walk (3 hours) in a nearby valley (Aragüés valley). We will try to ascend throught a gorge until a meadows full of snow in Winter and sorrounded by beautyful peaks. Come back to Casa Estarrún for dinner.

 

Day 8

Departure day, according to the avaible time, we could a short walk in the Aisa surroundings.

The holiday inclusive details

The holidays include bed and breakfast, evenings meals in Casa Estarrún with wine included, the guide, the transport to the routes, also the tickets to visit the heritage and the renting of the snowshoes. All the dinners in Casa Estarrún will be cooked with local food and traditional dishes with some innovations. We include also the transfer from Jaca to Casa Estarrún. We will give all the information needed to get to Jaca easily by train and bus. If you wish to be picked up from the Huesca train station it will cost a suplement per person, please ask for the price when booking if you require it.

Estarrún Bed and breakfast

You will stay in Casa Estarrún, our (Natalia, Julio and Darío) rustic but comfortable bed and breakfast, an old hut restored taking care of the traditional materials (stone, wood), that we manage from a decade ago. You will enjoy its sunny small garden, its rooms with beautiful mountains views, and its stove to heat in the Winter and talk a little beside the fireplace.

 

Casa Estarrún is located near the Western Valleys Natural Park, this park contain five valleys (Ansó, Hecho, Aragües, Aísa y Borau), which offer wide different range of hikes and walks, it´s perfect to escape from others crowded parts of the Pyrenees. The nearness of the france atlantic hillside allow us to visit the Pyrenees National Park and its surroundings like the Aspe and Lescun valleys, a more humed Pyrenee that raises wilder. All these valleys are the home of the last Pyrenees bears and the bearded vultures. We are also beside the Way of St. James so you will find a wide variety heritage, emphasizing the San Juan de la Peña monastery and the Jaca catedral.

Flights

 

Zaragoza is our nearer airport. It is a good alternative if you come from inside europe, for example from London. Ryanair offers directs flights to Zaragoza from London Stansted airport.

The best alternative options are the Madrid (Barajas) and Barcelona (El Prat) airports, above all if you come from outside Europe. The most of the airlines, including the low cost, flight to both airports.

 

Trains

 

If you flight to Madrid or barcelona. You can take a train (including high speed trains) to Zaragoza Delicias train station or Huesca Station. You can look for train times and prices  in RENFE or Omio.

 

Buses

 

Once in Zaragoza or Huesca, you can take a bus to Jaca. The buses leave from Zaragoza Central bus Station (Zaragoza Estación Central) or Huesca bus station. Both are located beside the Zaragoza Delicias train Station and  Huesca train Station.

Yuo can check for times and prices in Reserbus (choose Zaragoza to Jaca) or in Avanzabus (choose Zara. Est. C. to Jaca).

 

Jaca – Aísa

 

We will pick up you from Jaca to Aísa and drop off from Aísa to Jaca when leaving. These transfers are included in the price.

 

If you wish we can provide transfers from Huesca train station to Aísa. If you are interested please ask for prices.

Of course, if you have any problem during the payments process or any other, we are here to help you and try to solve them or inform you how to proceed.

High speed trains can be booked two months in advance. Buses may be booked three months in advance.
